City Channel launches Galway service

Tuesday 28th of November 2006

The dedicated channel marks the expansion for City Channel in the Western region and follows the successful City Channel launches in Dublin and Waterford. City Channel Galway will commence broadcasting from Tuesday 28th November and will transmit a dedicated Galway service from 6:30pm until 8:00pm every evening.

City Channel promises to deliver a strong mix of lifestyle, entertainment and information with subjects that will appeal to Galway audiences. Familiar personality, Sinead Ni Neachtain will front On Your Doorstep, which takes a closer look at local businesses and what they have to offer, while Jimmy Norman will introduce the weekly programme on local issues entitled Galway in Focus. In addition, Jimmy Greeley will put the spotlight on restaurants in Galway and will profile these through his popular On the Menu and Orla Rapple will present a western version of her arts and events programme Spotlight.

Vanessa Kaminski, Programme Director of City Channel said: “I’m delighted with today’s announcement, which provides a new and dedicated television service to Galway people and businesses across the city and county. The local angle should generate mass appeal and we’re confident that viewers will benefit from the wide range of diverse programmes ranging from property, motoring, fashion, happenings, finance, leisure and current affairs”.

Welcoming the new channel, Simon Kelehan, TV, Product and Content manager of UPC Ireland said: “Our partnership with City Channel Group represents a significant step by UPC to extend its relationship with local content providers, as well as beginning the process of developing new ones. In Galway over 29,000 homes will receive the new City Channel as part of their basic TV service with no additional costs. Introducing local content as part of our TV package is important to us as it differentiates us from alternative operators together with supporting local business and content providers within Ireland”.
